Pressure & Decompression Testing

Low Pressure (Altitude) Testing

Simulates reduced pressure conditions to test how equipment performs at elevated ground locations or in-flight. This testing is critical for products that will be exposed to high altitudes, ensuring they meet stringent performance standards.

Altitude Testing Categories

Storage/Air Transport Testing

For equipment that will be transported or stored at high altitudes.

Operational Testing

To ensure equipment functions properly while in use at elevated altitudes.

Altitude Testing Capabilities

We have specialized test chambers that simulate altitude conditions from sea level up to 80,000 ft, with temperature control ranging from -65°F to +350°F.

4 ft. Chamber

Conducts both temperature and altitude testing.

6 ft. Chamber

Performs Combined Environment Testing, including temperature, altitude, humidity, and icing conditions.

20 ft. Chamber

Capable of Combined Environment Testing, including temperature up to +350°F and altitude up to 70,000 ft.

Testing Standards

MIL-STD-810, Method 500

Overpressure Testing

Overpressure (or Positive Pressure) Testing is a type of altitude testing that simulates the conditions in which equipment inside an aircraft may be exposed to elevated cabin pressure.

Overpressure Testing Capabilities

Dayton T. Brown, Inc.’s testing chambers are equipped to handle the following overpressure testing capabilities.

Accommodate test items up to 10 ft. in length.

Perform tests up to 20 PSIG at room temperature

RTCA/DO-160, Section 4.6.3

Rapid & Explosive Decompression Testing

Simulates the effects of sudden pressure drops that occur during a rapid decrease in altitude.

Decompression Testing Categories

Rapid Decompression Testing

Evaluates how equipment reacts when the cabin pressure is reduced in 15 seconds or less.

Explosive Decompression Testing

Assesses the impact of an even more sudden, high-risk, pressure drop, simulating decompression changes between 0.010 and 0.100 seconds in the presence of fuel.

Decompression Testing Capabilities

We have multiple chambers designed for testing various equipment sizes under rapid or explosive decompression conditions.

8 in. x 12 in. Chamber

Ideal for smaller test items.

4 ft. x 12 ft. Chamber

Suitable for larger test items.
